Workshop:

Mastering the Treatment of Complex Trauma: Transforming Theory into Practice

July 11, 2019

St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada

Treating PTSD and Complex PTSD requires a specialized body of knowledge and a specific set of skills due to the dissociative process that is so often concurrent with PTSD. Without this body of knowledge unnecessary mistakes can be made while treating this clinical population. This one day workshop will teach Structural Dissociation Theory and show how to apply it to clinical practice. Fraser's Dissociative Table Technique will be taught and demonstrated along with ways to integrate this powerful tool throughout the entire treatment process. Case examples and videos will be presented as examples of how to integrate this information into practice.

Objectives:

1) Define derealization and depersonification
2) Describe the most common mistake that is made in treating complex trauma that increases the client's dissociative process
3) Define mental health in Structural Dissociation terminology
4) Describe one condition when the use of the Fraser's Dissociative Table Technique is indicated.
