Workshop:

Master Class Treating Complex Trauma

Presented by Kathleen Martin, LCSW

March 5-7, 2026

Location: Online

Abstract

Treating clients with complex trauma with a dissociative process takes years to master. The clinician needs: 1) a solid grounding in dissociation theory that integrates well with the psychotherapy modality used; 2) advanced skills in treating dissociation; 3) consultation; 4) on-going learning; 5) one's own therapy and healing; and 4) practice. This workshop is devised for EMDR therapy clinicians who have been trained in dissociation theory and are dedicated to fine-tuning and strengthening their skills to treat complex trauma. Each day will include lecture, live demonstrations, Q & A and supervised practica. This workshop is limited to 12 clinicians to facilitate individualized learning.

Objectives

1)    Describe the presentation of non-personification in 1 client with complex trauma

2)    Demonstrate 2 skills to treat non-personification

3)    Demonstrate the use of 1 oblique time orientation intervention

4)    Demonstrate the use of Fraser's Dissociation Table Technique across the treatment process

5)    Describe 5 factors for readiness for EMDR Therapy Phase 4 processing in complex trauma cases

6)    Demonstrate 3 skills used in the reprocessing phases to facilitate effective reprocessing

Requirements for Attendance

This is an advanced workshop for people who have had training in Structural Dissociation Theory, Fraser's Dissociative Table Technique, time orientation skills and how to work with a person with a dissociative system. This workshop will not go over all this material but rather deepen your knowledge in it and provide practicum opportunities to integrate your learning. Participants must have taken the following trainings:

1.     Completed an EMDRIA approved EMDR Therapy Basic Training

2.     Have taken the webinar series on dissociation and treating complex trauma, taught by Kathleen Martin. This series has been offered in the past in either a 2-day in-person workshop or an online series of 3 lectures, 4 hours each, covering the same material. (This webinar series will be offered again in January, 2026. Please go to www.kmccs.com for more details). If you have questions on whether you have taken this course, please contact Kathleen Martin at kmartinlcsw@gmail.com.

3.     Read the required reading prior to the workshop for a refresher of some of the above material. You will receive a link to these materials 30 days before the start of the workshop.

4.     Understand that this workshop includes practicums, at least one per day, and live demonstrations each day. The purposes of the practicums are to integrate and deepen your skills to treat complex trauma and to accomplish personal work. You will be assigned to a practicum group consisting of 1 or 2 other students in the workshop. You will rotate the roles of therapist, client and observer, using personal material when you are in the client role for authenticity. You will be required to be a therapist in the practicums with supervision by the workshop instructors. To allow others in the practicum group to also have the experience in the therapist role with live supervision, you will need to agree to be a client when it is your turn. If you are not willing or able to do personal work as a client, or be the therapist for others doing personal work, please do not take this workshop. If you have any questions about this, please contact Kathleen Martin before submitting your registration and payment.
